I read the testimony of a man who was in the Wehrmacht in World War II, he was a German soldier and he got born again. He thought 'Oh Lord, what am I going to do now!?' [laughs]. And he started praying over this thing and he said 'What am I going to do?'. And he said, 'Well Lord, I've given my oath, I'm a soldier, I must do my duty.' And God saw him through five and a half years of combat, protected him all the way through the whole thing and saw to it that he never, ever had to kill anybody. Supernaturally! I mean, well if you ever get a chance, if you ever run across his testimony, it's worth reading. And it's just amazing how God took care of that!
A good friend of mine was a P-47 pilot, World War II, and he was in Italy. All his folk were praying. He was a Christian, but his folks at home knew a whole lot more about praying than he did and they were really holding him up in prayer and surrounding him in prayer. And one morning his whole family just woke up praying for A.C. I mean they're praying for A.C. 'Oh God, what's going on with A.C.?' So they're all praying and holding him up in prayer and he was on a... he'd come off of a bombing mission and was headed back... you know, taking targets at will, right on the trees, just shooting everything that moved. And he popped up over this little hill and he said, 'Man! I mean I'm face to face with this triple-A emplacement just sitting there, looking me right in the face.' He said 'I just came over that little hill' and he said 'I'm point blank, the guy can't miss.' And he said, 'I come down on the trigger and when I pull the trigger, none of my guns fire.' And he said, 'I just shut my eyes and said "Oh God".' Man, you know, probably not even higher than that ceiling, just right over the top; and the Anti-Aircraft didn't fire. Well he thought, 'Phew, thank God his gun's jammed too!' And on the way back he got past them and he tried his guns and they worked. Well he said 'Oh, thank God' and forgot about it.
Well after the war, he's giving his testimony and he was with the Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship and they went to Germany. And there he's giving his testimony and after it was over with, this man came running over up to him and said 'Where were you?' They got their heads together; he was in command of that anti-aircraft battery and he said 'You just popped up over the hill' and he said 'I thought "Oh dear Jesus, help me, help me, help me!".' And he said 'Man, I'm stomping that trigger and there ain't nothing happening!' He said 'I thought "Oh Jesus, Oh Jesus!" and he said 'I never could figure out how come you didn't shoot!'. He said 'I couldn't figure out how come you didn't shoot.' But everybody's praying! Can you see what I'm talking about here now?
