General Jerry Currie... You guys heard of General Currie? You know who he is? Well you need to find out about him. First thing you need to know about General Currie is, he's a black man; this is important for what I'm about to tell you. General Currie came out of high school and immediately went into the Army. Now, he didn't go to West Point, he didn't go to any military academy. He was a high school graduate, he went right in and enlisted. Ah, but General Currie had a momma, that he says she might as well have been military academy.

He said Momma taught him discipline and Momma taught him and raised him up. He said 'I received the Holy Ghost and spoke with other tongues when I was a nine year old boy.' And he said 'My momma taught me how to pray in the Spirit; she taught me how to hear the voice of the Lord; she taught me how to believe God.' He said 'I didn't have money enough to go to school anywhere.' And I asked him and I said, 'General Currie, now you came up being a black, Pentecostal, wild man for Jesus all the way up through the ranks.' I said, 'How did that sit with you?'; back in the days that he went in, because he was an artillery officer in South East Asia, and he was a captain at that time and so you can tell about the time that he went in the military was in the late 50's, early 60's, right along in there. He said 'Well hey!' He said 'It was the Holy Ghost that got me everywhere I went. You know the Bible said it's God that gives promotion.' And he said 'I wasn't going to turn loose of it after I became an officer. There wasn't any way I was going to do that.'

And I said, 'Well tell me about God teaching you war.' 'Well, one night...' he said, 'I was an artillery officer in Vietnam...' and he said 'I had a patrol out...' And he said 'this young lieutenant called me on the radio, he said "Captain, please watch what you say, don't use any directions, I am totally surrounded and I know I'm being monitored, I'm stuck. I don't know how we're going to get out of here. I can't afford to ask you for cover fire in directions because they're listening to me, I now for a fact. What do I do?"' He said, 'Lieutenant, I'll get back to you just as quick as I can.' And he said, 'I went outside and I'm walking around out there, and it's a cold, crisp night and the sky looked like it had a billion stars in it. And I'm just walking around and I said "Oh, Jesus, Oh Jesus show me".' And he said, 'I began to pray in the Spirit. I wasn't out there but a few minutes, suddenly...' I love 'suddenly's, don't you! He said, 'Suddenly, I knew what to do; I ran in there; picked up the horn and I said "Lieutenant, are you a Christian?" and he said "Yes sir."' He said 'Do you remember what direction the star of Jesus was in?' 'Oh yeah, Captain, I do.' He said 'I'm going to lay down a field of fire everywhere but in that direction. You come home in that direction'. He said 'Affirmative Sir; I'm on my way'. And here they came. Hallelujah, Amen.

And he retired a General Officer, became Assistant Secretary of Transportation. Praise God, and one of the finest men I ever met and I'm glad I know him. That's what I'm talking about. This [taps Bible] kind of spiritual life does not make you weaker. It makes you stronger because God is in it. God is in it. And when He's in it, victory is at hand.
